The Paradise Studio Tour Artist Collective recently donated $1,320 to the Pahoa High and Intermediate School art department.
During the two-day studio tour in December with 45 artists in Keaau’s Hawaiian Paradise Park, student art was divided between the 13 studios.
They included nearly 20 student artists from Pahoa High School as well as Hawaii Academy of Arts and Sciences. Art exhibited included drawings, paintings, jewelry and clay sculpture.
The PST group donates 10 percent of sales, after an initial $100 for each artist.
This sixth annual event marked nearly $7,000 in donations given to three Lower Puna high schools: Keaau, Pahoa and HAAS.
“We want to give back to the community and support the arts,” said Patti Datlof, one of the core organizers. “With school budgets being tight, we are aware of the need for art supplies and equipment. Teachers often dip into their own pockets to augment their classroom supplies.
